Here is a tie almost nobody saw coming, and it might be the most fun of the lot. Ivory Coast are in the knockout rounds of a World Cup for the very first time, a young team that has scored first in every game so far. Norway are back on this stage after 28 years away, and they have the most lethal striker on the planet leading their line. So it comes down to a simple question in the Texas heat: can the Elephants find a way to stop Erling Haaland? Below you will find the kick-off time where you are, how to watch, the likely lineups and who we think goes through.
Kickoff is 1:00 PM ET on Tuesday, June 30 / 6:00 PM in the UK at Dallas Stadium in Arlington, where it is a noon local start. In the US the game is on Fox. In Britain it is free on BBC One, with streaming on BBC iPlayer.

The Road to the Round of 32
Both teams came through as runners-up, and both took six points from three games. Ivory Coast finished behind Germany in Group E; Norway finished behind France in Group I. You can check every final table in our World Cup 2026 groups guide.
The winner goes to the Round of 16 to face the winner of Brazil vs Japan. Level after 90 minutes and we get extra time, then penalties if needed.
Can the Elephants Find a Way to Stop Haaland?
Let us start with the obvious one. Erling Haaland has been a man possessed in this tournament, two goals against Iraq, two more against Senegal, four in two starts before Stale Solbakken wrapped him in cotton wool for the dead rubber against France. Norway lost that game 4-1 and did not seem to care, because second place was already theirs and their best players got a rest. Haaland comes into Dallas fresh, firing and on 59 goals in 52 caps for his country. That is a frightening number, and it is the single biggest reason Norway are favourites.
But Norway are not the finished article, and Ivory Coast know it. The Norwegians have shipped seven goals already and have not kept a clean sheet, so for all the firepower up top, there are gaps to attack. Martin Odegaard pulls the strings and has two assists, Alexander Sorloth and Antonio Nusa give them pace and power on the flanks, and this is a side that wants to play, which should suit a game that opens up.
Ivory Coast, under Emerse Fae, are quietly one of the better stories of this World Cup. They have reached the knockouts for the first time in their history and they did it the hard way, scoring first in all three group games, beating Ecuador and Curacao either side of a cruel stoppage-time defeat to Germany. The talk is all about Yan Diomande, the 19-year-old winger whose pace and trickery have half of Europe watching, but there is real steel here too in Franck Kessie and Ibrahim Sangare. The one thing that has let them down is finishing, and against Norway they cannot afford to waste what they make.
So which way does it go? Honestly, this is a coin flip, and the bookies agree. The smart money leans Norway, simply because they have the one player who does not need many chances to win a game, and a set piece or a single Haaland moment could settle it. But Ivory Coast are awkward, organised and dangerous on the break, and if their young forwards take their chances they are more than capable of pulling off the upset. We will go for a narrow Norway win, with Haaland the difference, but do not be shocked if the Elephants march on, and do not rule out extra time.
How They Might Line Up
Single yellow cards from the group stage are wiped, so both coaches have a clean slate. Ivory Coast may be without right-back Wilfried Singo, who limped off against Germany. Norway are expected to bring back the big names rested against France, with Julian Ryerson worth watching after a thigh issue.

A Word on Dallas Stadium
Better known as AT&T Stadium, home of the NFLβs Dallas Cowboys, this Arlington venue goes by Dallas Stadium during the World Cup. The retractable roof and air conditioning are a blessing in the Texas summer, and the place is hosting nine matches, a semi-final among them. There is more on it over at Wikipedia.
There is no real history here, which adds to the intrigue. This is the first competitive meeting between Ivory Coast and Norway. For what it is worth, Norway have lost only twice in 19 games against African opposition over the years, so the matchup tends to suit them.
Ivory Coast vs Norway: Quick Answers

Yes. It is live and free on BBC One, with free streaming on BBC iPlayer and coverage starting around 5pm.
What happens if it is a draw after 90 minutes?

Who does the winner play next?
The winner of Ivory Coast vs Norway moves into the Round of 16, where they will meet the winner of Brazil vs Japan.
How many goals has Haaland scored at the World Cup?
Four so far, two against Iraq and two against Senegal, before he was rested for Norway's final group game against France. He is right in the hunt for the Golden Boot.
Why is this a big moment for Ivory Coast?
It is the first time in their history they have reached the World Cup knockout stage. They also scored first in all three group games, something only one other African nation has ever done at a World Cup.
What is the prediction?
We expect a narrow Norway win, with Haaland the likely difference, though it is close to a coin flip. Ivory Coast are well organised and dangerous on the break, and an upset, or extra time, would be no surprise.
