👑 The Group

Group C: Scotland Chasing a Historic First

Brazil and Morocco both won on Matchday 2 and sit on four points, with Brazil top on goal difference. Scotland are third on three after a narrow loss to Morocco, but a draw against Brazil would, by historical precedent, give them around a 98 percent chance of finally reaching the knockouts. Haiti are already out.

The top two qualify automatically, plus the best third-placed teams. A draw would likely be enough for Scotland, but a win removes all doubt.

⚽ The Big Picture

90 Minutes From History for the Tartan Army

This is the game Scotland have waited a generation for. Back at a World Cup for the first time since France 98, Steve Clarke’s side have a golden chance to do what no Scotland team ever has and reach the knockout stage of a major tournament. They beat Haiti 1-0 on the opening night, then lost a tight one to Morocco, conceding the earliest goal in World Cup history after just 70 seconds. They sit third, and the equation is simple enough: avoid defeat and they are almost certainly through.

There is a lovely symmetry to the fixture, too. Scotland, Brazil and Morocco were all drawn together back in 1998, the last time the Scots graced this stage, and here are two of them again with everything on the line. The catch is the opponent. Scotland have met Brazil ten times and never won, losing eight, including a 2-1 defeat in the opening match of that 1998 tournament. History could hardly be more lopsided.

And yet Brazil have been there for the taking. Carlo Ancelotti’s side were unconvincing in a 1-1 draw with Morocco before finding their feet against Haiti, where Matheus Cunha struck twice and Vinicius Junior again caught the eye. Vinicius has scored in both group games and is the obvious danger, but Brazil are without the injured Raphinha, and Neymar is only fit enough for the bench. They need a draw to be sure of topping the group, which may tempt them to play within themselves.

If Scotland sit too deep, Vinicius and Cunha will eventually find a way through. But if Clarke’s men show the front-foot bravery they found too late against Morocco, this Brazil side can be rattled. Realistically, Brazil’s quality should still tell, and a narrow win for the favourites is the likeliest outcome. But a draw that writes Scotland into the history books is far from fanciful, and the Tartan Army will believe.

How They Might Line Up

Clarke is likely to go with a back three and wing-backs, with Ben Doak pushing to start. Brazil are without the injured Raphinha, so teenager Rayan comes in on the right, with Neymar named among the substitutes.

BRAZIL · Ancelotti · 4-2-3-1

Home to the NFL’s Miami Dolphins, Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens has a huge shading canopy over the stands to combat the Florida heat and humidity, though the early-evening kick-off will still be warm. Known as Miami Stadium during the tournament, it is hosting seven matches, including the third-place play-off. There is more on it at Wikipedia.

The Record Between Them

Brazil dominate it. The sides have met ten times, with eight Brazil wins and two draws, and Scotland have never beaten them. They have clashed at four World Cups, all in the group stage, most recently a 2-1 Brazil win in the 1998 opener.

❓ Common Questions

Scotland vs Brazil: Quick Answers

What time does Scotland vs Brazil kick off?

6pm Eastern in the US, which is 5pm Central and 11pm in the UK. In Rio it is 7pm. The date is Wednesday, June 24, 2026.

Is Scotland vs Brazil on free TV in the UK?

Yes. The match is live and free on BBC One, with free streaming via BBC iPlayer, though it is a late 11pm kick-off.

Can I watch Scotland vs Brazil free in the US?

Yes. Tubi is streaming it free with no signup. Fox has the English broadcast and Telemundo the Spanish, and it is also on Fox One, Fubo and YouTube TV.

What does Scotland need to reach the knockouts?

A win guarantees it. A draw would, by historical precedent, give Scotland roughly a 98 percent chance of progressing as one of the best third-placed teams. A defeat would leave them sweating on other results.

Have Scotland ever beaten Brazil?

No. The sides have met ten times, with Brazil winning eight and two drawn. Scotland have never beaten Brazil at any level.

Has Scotland ever reached the knockout stage of a World Cup?

No. This is Scotland’s first World Cup since 1998, and across 12 previous World Cups and Euros they have never progressed beyond the group stage, the longest such wait of any nation.

Who are the key players?

For Brazil, Vinicius Junior, Matheus Cunha and Casemiro. For Scotland, Scott McTominay, John McGinn, captain Andy Robertson and the pace of Ben Doak.

What is the prediction?

We lean towards a narrow 2-1 Brazil win, with Vinicius Junior again the danger. But Brazil have looked beatable, and a draw that sends Scotland through to a first ever knockout stage is a real possibility.
